It Aint No Favor

There is a wonderful homeschool program offered in the big metro area near by. It offers kids a chance to learn wood working, apple pressing for cider, sewing leather, hiking, making a fire without matches. making their own bows and arrows and learning archery etc. It operates on Tuesdays, a perfect day for Peter. So I look up the cost and lo, it is $425 for homeschoolers. It's 8 classes. Now ladies and gentlemen, this woman aint payin' no thirty bucks a class for nothin'. Ya git that?

The irony is how the website goes on and on about how much they want to get children back to nature and back to working with their hands and what a favor they are doing all of us to let our children take part in this during the school day rather than weekends. Well by the looks of that price I'd say we were doing them the favor, not the other way around!

I charge $25 a day for my Blueberry House homeschool. This year it is comprised of one full time student, one 3 day a week student, and two 1 day a week students. Just think what I could get for my work if I was really concerned about the homeschool community? Instead of roughly $400 a month I could make $400 dollars in just 8 days! Hmm maybe I need to refigure my amount of empathy here!

  1. I have seen programs for homeschoolers with those kinds of outlandish prices as well. I wonder if they realize that the things they are teaching are not national secrets, people have been doing them for ages.

  2. Here in the UK we pay £15 ($25) for our girls to go to 'Forest School'. I only do it because of their love of nature, but it is an extortionate price.

  3. Just imagine the crazy price they'd charge if they didn't respect your intelligence.

    LOL *snort*

  4. The sad thing is, someone must be paying it. Otherwise, the prices would be lowered.

  6. Does sound like a good thing, but I wouldn't pay that.

  7. I have a friend who was in a rather rich homeschool group a few years ago. She said they'd arrange these special science days at the University or otherwise, charging $80 for a day. She couldn't afford it and swore they thought she was just blowing them off. No one doubts they were great, but they weren't priced for us regular people.
